you cant take a good education for granted…

i went to see the instructor at office hours…

i wanted to know my big band… and i know he can help me analyze it…

“when i fall in love” was pretty straightforward…

I showed that i took what he’d helped me with earlier and it filled it out more for this nestico tune (show me the way to go home).. it was easy b/c it all repeated.. but he seemed to be somewhat impressed…

i asked about whether i should have scale sheets infront of me, and he said no… i should have changes infront of me though, but we hadnt really done many full songs yet…

i told him i wanted to be good, and he said it’d take 3 years.. it all takes time…

for the blues tune he told me to play digital patterns…1231.. 1235… you know, this is what i need people to tell me!…

i love playing my scales more than ever now… its all coming together…

i talked to the big band guy….

he was telling protester stories.. convinced me to leave BOA…

i help him with his website 🙂

I told him i wanted to be good…

when i started he said these things about my playing: bad phrasing… out of tune.. holding the horn wrong… squeeking…

man i’ve come a lonnnng way.

he told me to lean back on when i fall in l0ve.. more hawkins and young… less coltrane and rollins!

before i left office hours i said..”you cant take for granted a good education”..

i’m just so grateful 🙂

the instructor smiled.. it was def a profound teacher/student moment!
